Polka-Dot Man is a DC Comics supervillain who first appeared in Detective Comics #300 (February, 1962).
Fictional character biography[]
For some unknown reason, Abner Krill decide to launch a crime spree in Gotham City revolving around spots and dots by assuming the identity of Mr. Polka-Dot. He ended up in conflict with Batman and Robin and used his polka-dots to fight them. He managed to capture Robin only to be defeated by Batman.
Some years later, Mr. Polka-Dot (now naming himself the Polka-Dot Man) returned without his gimmicks. He used a baseball bat to assault Officer Foley leaving the policeman with minor injuries. The Polka-Dot Man was then assaulted by Harvey Bullock who was tired of seeing costumed villains in the city. The assault put the Polka-Dot Man in traction, and he filed a brutality suit against the police department which resulted in Bullock being forced to see a psychiatrist for some time.
Abner reappeared with a new look and working for General Immortus. He has returned to the name Mr. Polka Dot.[1] He is later killed by Human Flame.[2]
Powers and abilities[]
Whether he created the suit or stole the technology is unknown, but Abner Krill possessed advanced technology in the form of his costume's dots. When attached to his costume, they were inert, but once removed, they would enlarge in size and become various different devices which could aid in his crime spree, most notably a flying saucer which he used as a getaway vehicle. The spots were controlled through the costume's belt.
As a follower of General Immortus, Mr Polka Dot has presumably been operated upon by Professor Milo to internalise his technology.
In other media[]
Television[]
- Polka-Dot Man appears in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode "Legends of the Dark Mite." He is an illusion that Bat-Mite fights when he becomes Batman. Polka-Dot Man is defeated when the real Batman jumps in three dots in this uniform, causing him to "TILT" like a pinball machine and shut down. He is later seen at a villain bar in the episode "Joker: The Vile and the Villainous."
