Gomamon is a Digimon creature from the Japanese Digimon media franchise that comprises anime, manga, toys, video games, trading card games and other media.

"Gomamon" is the name that all members of this particular Digimon species share. There are several different Gomamon that appear in various Digimon anime and manga series.

The most well-known appearance of Gomamon is in the Digimon Adventure anime as the partner of Joe Kido.

The Gomamon of Digimon Adventure also appears in the sequel series Digimon Adventure 02 and all the Digimon Adventure/02 related movies, if only playing at best a spectator's role.

Gomamon is a creature, who appears to be based on a young harp seal. He has purple markings and spots, all over his body as a design as well as some orange hair on the back of, his head.

Gomamon first appears as Bukamon (his In-Training form) chasing Joe Kido who apparently wanted to make friends with him though Joe was too frightened at first. Bukamon soon digivolves during the battle against Kuwagamon and when the DigiDestined falls off the cliff from Kuwagamon's attack Gomamon saves them by using his marching fishes attack to create a type of raft out of fish to go down the river. As the series advances, Gomamon eventually digivolves into his other stronger forms to help the Digidestined.

In the series, Gomamon was seen as the joker of the group providing much humour at times. At first with his attitude, he and Joe did not get along as Joe was always serious. However the two became good friends as Gomamon showed Joe that being serious all the time was not the best thing to do and that some things in life needed a bit of humour.

In Digimon Adventure 02, Gomamon appears with a more minor role. He was one of the digimon who provided help for the newer digidestined. Eventually he came to the real world as an ally to help fight off more dangerous digimon which entered the real world as well. He was later seen sealing the Hikarigaoka Gate and in the final battle against MaloMyotismon.

Other Forms

The name "Gomamon" refers only to the Rookie form of this Digimon. Throughout the series, Gomamon gains the ability to Digivolve into a number of more powerful forms, each with a different name and special attack. However, the Rookie level is his preferred form and the one he spends most of his time in, due to the amount of energy required to stay in a higher form.

  • Marching Fishes: Gomamon summons his colorful fish friends to attack the enemy.

Pitimon (ピチモン)

Pitimon is Gomamon's Fresh form, a Slime Digimon. Pitimon's Japanese name is Pichimon which comes from the Japanese word "Pichipichi", referring to a fish that is flopping and jumping around.

Pitimon appears in Digimon Adventure during a flashback of when the chosen Digimon hatched out from their Digi-Eggs. It also appears in Digimon Next paired with Ami. In it, it can digivolve into MarineAngemon.

  • Bubble Blow: Fires bubbles from his mouth.

Bukamon (プカモン Pukamon)

Bukamon is the In-Training form of Gomamon. Its Japanese name is Pukamon, which comes from the Japanese word "pukapuka", which describes the sound of something floating. In Malay, "buka" means open in English.

Joe met his partner Bukamon when he first came to the Digital World. Bukamon Digivolved to Gomamon to protect Joe from Kuwagamon. After this, Gomamon only reverted to its In-Training form when De-Digivolving from Zudomon.

  • Bubble Blow: Fires bubbles from his mouth.

Ikkakumon (イッカクモン)

Ikkakumon is a Sea Animal Digimon and Champion form of Gomamon. His name is derived from the Japanese word "ikkaku", which means single-horn.

Gomamon first Digivolved to Ikkakumon to protect Joe from the Black-Gear-infected Unimon. Since then, Ikkakumon has fought various enemies like Devimon, Etemon and the henchmen of Myotismon. Other than being used for battle, Ikkakumon was also used as a ferry for travelling across the water.

When the Digimon Emperor was conquering the Digital World, Gomamon was among the old generation Digimon to help the new gang out, appearing four times as Ikkakumon to fight Ebidramon, another MegaSeadramon, and finally BlackWarGreymon.

  • Harpoon Torpedo (Harpoon Vulcan): Fires his horn which disassembles into a missile.

Zudomon (ズドモン)

Zudomon is a Sea Animal Digimon and the Ultimate form of Gomamon. He resembles a giant gray and orange walrus wearing a turtle shell with large spikes coming out of it; he generally carries a large metal hammer and he has a horn that absorbs electricity. In Digimon Adventure-Adventure 02, he is voiced by Michael Lindsay (US) and Junko Takeuchi (Japan).

Zudomon first debuted on August 3, 1999 when Myotismon isolated Odaiba from the rest of Tokyo so that his henchmen could gather the populace. On route to Odaiba via Tokyo Bay, Joe, T.K. and their Digimon encountered MegaSeadramon while passing Rainbow Bridge. It was Joe's need to put T.K.'s well-being ahead of his own that caused his crest to glow and Ikkakumon to Digivolve to Zudomon, who managed to defeat MegaSeadramon, rescue Wizardmon and get involved in the final battle with Myotismon himself. Zudomon was also a needed ally in the fight against the Dark Masters, MetalEtemon and Apocalymon.

When Joe used the crest power to free the Sovereigns, Gomamon lost the power to become Zudomon. That was until three years later, when, on Christmas Day, Gomamon and the other old generation Digimon had that power restored to them by one of the DigiCores of Azulongmon. Zudomon, with Submarimon and their human partners, went to Sydney to help the Australian and Pacific DigiDestined with the chaos caused by the aquatic Digimon. But during the fight against SkullSatamon of the Daemon Corps, Zudomon, after he and the other Ultimates were defeated, regressed due to the strain of his stay in the Real World for so long .

  • Vulcan's Hammer (Hammer Spark): He smashes his giant hammer into the ground, resulting in a thunderbolt that strikes his target.
  • Hammer Boomerang: He throws his hammer like a boomerang.
  • Shell Bombing: He curls his body so only his spiky shell is showing, and throws himself at the enemy.

  • Gomamon has one song "Muteki na Bataashi" ("An Invincible Flutter Kick") and another with Joe Kido/Kido Jō (Masami Kikuchi) called "Sora wo Crawl" ("Crawl Across the Sky").
  • Zudomon's first battle was against MegaSeadramon and he used his hammer to defeat him. This, and his ability to absorb lightning may be a reference to the Norse god of thunder, Thor and his eventual battle with the giant sea serpent Jörmungandr.
