This category is for fictional characters who chose not to speak in spite of having the capacity to do so. This is a form of selective mutism, an anxiety disorder in which a person normally cannot speak in specific situations, specific places, or to specific people if triggered. Selective mutism usually co-exists with social anxiety disorder.[1].
